Common faults and solutions in pad printing

Pad printing is one of the special printing methods. It can print text, graphics and images on the surface of irregular objects of opposite sex, and it is now becoming an important special printing. For example, the text and patterns on the surface of mobile phones are printed in this way, and the surface printing of many electronic products such as computer keyboards, instruments, meters, etc., are all done by pad printing.

The pad printing process is very simple. It uses steel (or copper, thermoplastic) intaglio plates and uses a curved pad printing head made of silicone rubber material to dip the ink on the intaglio plate onto the surface of the pad printing head, and then apply it to the desired surface of the object. You can print text, patterns, etc. with a single press.

Many printing failures often occur in pad printing. This article summarizes the common failures in the pad printing process and organizes them into a more comprehensive list of pad printing failures.

One of the common faults: the lines and text of the printed matter are unclear and fuzzy.

Common fault two: the adhesion of the ink does not meet the requirements

This failure is very common in pad printing, because you do not know the ink formula, or the selected ink type is incorrect.

Common fault three: obvious pinholes appear on the printed matter

If the small pinholes are larger and appear in the same position on the printed matter, then check the image on the pad and the intaglio plate. If necessary, replace the pad printing head and intaglio plate.

Common failure four: uneven thickness of the ink layer

It often occurs in areas where the ink covers a larger area.

Common fault five: the printed image appears distorted

When printing on objects with raised or recessed surfaces, the image is often distorted.

Common fault six: Ink hiding power is too poor

When printing a single color ink on a dark object, the hiding power of the ink is often insufficient. In this case, it is generally necessary to print the color again to achieve the required degree of coverage. For example, printing white ink on a dark background sometimes requires printing several times, and it is necessary to spread enough ink to obtain a brighter image.

Common fault seven: image smeared

If the ink is too thin during printing, or the printing head slips, the printed image will be smeared. The printing head is too hard, the printing object is not firmly fixed, the angle of the printing object on the fixture is not correct, and the pressure of the printing head is too high, etc., will cause the printing head to slide during the printing process.
