Dual-Purpose Machine: 2-Meter Hybrid Printer Breaks The Boundary Between Roll And Flatbed Printing

In UV printing, a clear dividing line has long existed: roll-to-roll printers excel at flexible materials - advertising fabric, vehicle wraps, lightbox fabric - but are ineffective with rigid sheets such as PVC foam board, KT board and acrylic. Flatbed printers, on the other hand, specialize in rigid materials and struggle with continuous operation on rolls of flexible media.

An advertising signage factory wanting to handle both roll and sheet orders often needs two machines, consuming both space and capital. Is there a single machine that can handle both?

The 2-meter hybrid printer provides the answer.

How the Hybrid Platform Handles Both Rolls and Sheets

The 2-meter hybrid printer is essentially a wide-format UV printer with a conveyor belt as its carrying platform, but its design logic moves beyond the limitations of traditional roll-to-roll printers.

Conveyor belt adsorption system. Using negative pressure through micropores on the belt surface, the system holds flexible roll materials flat for continuous feeding, and also secures rigid sheets so they advance step by step along the belt. There is no need to distinguish between "roll mode" and "sheet mode" - printing can begin as soon as the material is loaded. Material form is no longer a prerequisite for machine selection.

Automatic unwinding and rewinding + platform extension. For roll materials, the front unwinding and rear rewinding tension system ensures continuous production of long lengths. For sheet materials, the roll channel pauses and the guide platform serves as the bearing surface for sheet-by-sheet printing. Switching between the two modes takes a single click through the user interface, with no mechanical modifications required.

The dual value of a 2-meter width. In roll-to-roll mode, a 2-meter width provides 25% more effective printing area than a conventional 1.6-meter model, significantly improving production efficiency for materials such as lightbox fabric and mesh fabric. In sheet mode, the 2-meter platform supports one-time forming of extra-large sheets, meeting the large-size needs of commercial space decoration and exhibition displays.

Print Quality: Grayscale Droplets and White Ink Varnish

While width and material compatibility are fundamental, image quality is the true currency of UV printing.

This class of equipment typically employs high-precision industrial printheads such as the Ricoh G6, G5 and Konica 9888H, combined with variable droplet grayscale printing technology to produce delicate gradations and sharp text edges. The standard ink combination is CMYKLcLm + white ink + varnish:

White ink layering provides a covering layer on transparent acrylic and dark substrates, ensuring the saturation of colored patterns.

Varnish local stacking builds UV varnish in specific areas of the image to achieve a textured, embossed feel, adding a premium finish to high-end display materials.

For roll materials, the ink cures strongly and remains flexible and crack-free after curing on fabric under uniform tension. For rigid substrates, UV ink cures instantly, requiring no drying time before subsequent processing.

Application Scenarios: One Machine, Two Businesses

Roll materials: large lightbox advertising, outdoor hoardings, exhibition backdrops; stretch ceilings, elastic fabrics, 3D mesh fabrics; vehicle wraps, removable films.

Sheet materials: PVC foam board, KT board, acrylic, aluminum composite panel signage; extra-large background walls, decorative paintings, commercial space partitions; customized home decoration using wood panels, glass and metal panels.

One 2-meter hybrid printer is equivalent to having both a 2-meter roll material machine and an extra-large format sheet machine - expanding equipment utilization and order range at the same time.

Industry Observation: The Market Logic of Hybrid Printing

In the past, UV equipment selection followed the logic of "first determine the material, then choose the model." Market demands are changing: advertising processing plants and display prop manufacturers face increasingly fragmented orders, with a growing variety of material types and sizes. Equipment capable of flexibly switching material forms is shifting from a bonus to a must-have.

Some manufacturers define the 2-meter hybrid printer as an all-around productivity tool for the advertising and signage industry. Behind this statement lies a clear business judgment: when a single machine can cover all categories of wide-format printing needs, the customer's equipment investment return cycle shortens significantly, and the flexibility of capacity allocation becomes a buffer against market fluctuations.

In wide-format printing, width is the ticket to scale and hybridization is the solution to efficiency - the 2-meter hybrid printer delivers both.
