How to Choose High-quality Acrylic Coatings

Acrylic UV coating is refined from a special modified resin and special auxiliary materials. It is a coating specifically designed for enhancing the adhesion of UV printed patterns on plastic materials such as acrylic, ABS, PS, PC, PE, etc. The YF-2513 UV flatbed printer under the FORTUNE brand uses acrylic coating that has functions such as fast drying speed, low odor, resistance to yellowing, high transparency, water resistance, and waterproofing. The printed patterns of the coating are colorful, realistic, and have strong adhesion and wear resistance.

The acrylic spray coating on the market has two or more component products. Before use, it needs to be configured according to the required proportion of the coating, otherwise it will affect the printing effect and cause waste. Single component coatings without configuration have greater advantages in use.

For testing acrylic coatings, Onos experts suggest that you can do the following:

Firstly, adhesion: There are various methods for measuring adhesion, such as the hundred grid method. If there is a high requirement for the quality of printed products, it is also possible to test whether the printed product has fallen off after being soaked in water or boiled in water for spray painting. Adhesion is the key to measuring the quality of UV acrylic coatings. High quality coatings should pass the hundred grid test and not peel off after soaking or boiling in water;

Secondly, leveling: Leveling is a common performance indicator in coatings, which refers to the ability of the coating to automatically flow and develop into a flat and smooth surface by the brush marks and spray particles that appear on the surface of the object after being brushed or sprayed. UV acrylic coatings with poor leveling properties can affect the decorative effect of printed materials. More importantly, if the brush marks on the coating surface do not disappear automatically, the uneven coating surface may rub against the UV printer printhead, causing significant losses. High quality coatings should have a tight formula and quickly flow flat after brushing or spraying;

Thirdly, film-forming transparency: As a high value-added decorative product, UV printed products generally have high requirements for appearance. This requires UV acrylic coating to form a colorless and transparent film. There are some two-component coatings on the market that are based on epoxy resin, which turn yellow and affect the decorative effect;

Fourth, safety and environmental protection: When selecting acrylic spray coatings, it is also necessary to consider product safety and environmental protection issues. It is generally recommended to choose a safe water-based coating. Solvent based coatings have a strong odor and improper storage can also lead to safety hazards. Shipping is also not convenient. If your process requires solvent based coatings, it is recommended that you store them separately to avoid potential safety hazards;

Fifth, weather resistance: The weather resistance of the coating is also a factor to consider, and it is necessary to ensure that the outdoor signage painted by UV is as bright as new for a long time and does not fade. In addition, acrylic coatings need to have the ability to resist ultraviolet radiation. Some coatings may turn yellow under long-term light conditions and are not suitable for outdoor use.
