Epson Is Fully Committed To Inkjet Printing, Phasing Out Laser Printer Business in 2026

Epson plans to end global sales and distribution of laser printers by 2026, and says it will be fully committed to inkjet printing for the office.

The company said it made the decision because "inkjet printing has greater potential for sustainability. This is due to the way the different technologies work -- lasers require heat to fuse the toner to the page, while inkjet printing Is a cold technology that requires less energy to operate.

The news comes a year after Epson announced an investment of 100 billion yen in sustainable innovation, and also marks the launch of Epson's new line of commercial inkjet MFPs.

Rob Clark, Senior Vice President of Epson EMEA, said: "The decision to leave the laser market was inevitable. As a company, we have always been committed to sustainable innovation and action, and laser printers do not meet this requirement. They are more competitive than business printers. Ink printers use more energy and use more consumable parts.
